چکیده

There are 3: valacyclovir, acyclovir, and topical penciclovir. valacyclovir, 2 g twice in 1 day taken during the prodromal stage of herpes labialis, reduces the episode duration and time to healing. Acyclovir, 400 mg, taken 5 times a day for 5 days, decreases the pain duration and healing time to loss of crust (strength of recommendation [sor]: a, based on randomized controlled trials [rCTs]). Topical penciclovir 1%, acyclovir 5%, or docosanol 10% also decrease the duration of pain and healing time (sor: a, based on rCTs). The best prophylaxis for herpes labialis is oral valacyclovir 500 mg daily; it reduces the frequency and severity of attacks (sor: B, based on rCT). sunscreen may be effective in sunlight-induced recurrence (sor: B, based on 2 small crossover rCTs).

To develop a model system of herpes simplex labialis which would enable the study of patients before lesion onset, five patients were exposed to various doses of UV light from a sunlamp at their usual site of lesions. Six of 10 treatments resulted in the development of herpes labialis. Three of four treatments with the highest exposure levels led to large, vesicular, virus culture-positive sore...

Clinical inquiries. What is the best test to detect herpes in skin lesions?

Test ulcers with culture or PCR Genital and oral lesions consistent with herpes simplex lesions are relatively common in my practice. Before PCR testing was available, ulcers could be tested via culture—which took too long to be immediately useful—or via Tzanck smear, which helped greatly if multinucleated giant cells were seen. However, both tests were relatively insensitive. As this Clinical ...

Acyclovir cream prevents clinical and thermographic progression of recrudescent herpes labialis beyond the prodromal stage.

Early treatment of recrudescent herpes labialis over the symptomatic area has been claimed to inhibit the clinical signs of recrudescent herpes labialis. Electronic infrared thermography can both recognise the prodromal phase and identify the area requiring drug therapy. Our objective was to use infrared thermography to identify prodromal herpes and follow the response to topical acyclovir crea...
